Children

  • Children must be supervised by an adult at all times.

Dogs

  • Dogs must be kept on leads at all times and not left unattended

  • Only assistance dogs are allowed inside site buildings

Fire safety and cooking

Fires

  • Open fires are not permitted on most of our sites

  • At Lee Valley Almost Wild Campsite, fires are allowed but only in the stone firepits provided

  • Firepits and BBQs (raised off the ground) are permitted but must be:

    • Fully extinguished by 22:00

    • Used safely — dispose of hot coals in the ash bins provided

BBQs

  • BBQs must not be placed directly on the ground, picnic benches, or decking

  • Never take a BBQ into an enclosed area (tent, awning, camping pod) - this creates a carbon monoxide (CO) risk, which can be fatal.

Smoking and vaping

  • Smoking and vaping are not allowed inside any buildings or rental units.

  • Each rental unit is fitted with a smoke detector which are regularly tested

Carbon Monoxide safety

CO can kill - please follow these rules:

  • Never use fuel-burning appliances inside tents, awnings or camping pods. Even warm BBQs or firepits can be deadly

  • Do not cook inside your tent or awning

  • All rental units are equipped with smoke and CO detectors

Site safety

Using naked flames

  • Use candles or other naked flames with extreme caution, don’t leave them unattended and ensure they are properly extinguished

Heaters and fans

  • Heaters and fans must be turned off when not in use and must never be covered

Vehicle movements

  • Be aware of moving vehicles, especially reversing caravans or motorhomes with restricted visibility

  • Keep children and pets well away from moving vehicles

Trip hazards

  • Look out for tent pegs and guy lines, especially in the dark - many trips happen at night!

Electric hook-up safety

  • Only use weatherproof, camping-specific leads suitable for your unit

  • Plug into your unit first, then the site bollard - this avoids handling a live lead

  • If using electricity in a tent keep all equipment dry, off the ground and away from tent fabric to avoid condensation risks

Water safety - lakes and rivers

We know the water can be tempting - but please follow these rules:

  • Swimming is strictly prohibited in any of the lakes or rivers around our campsites

  • Inflatable boats/canoes are not permitted in the Lee Valley lakes

  • Fishing:

    • Is allowed in designated sections of the river (at Lee Valley Caravan Park and Lee Valley Almost Wild Campsite) - please ensure no hooks are left lying around where they may cause an injury to another visitor

    • A valid Environment Agency rod licence (except children under 13) is required.  More info: gov.uk/fishing-licences

    • Respect the closed season: 15 March – 15 June

Canoeing and paddleboarding

  • Permitted on the River Lee only

  • You’ll need either a British Canoeing membership or a valid licence
