Measure yourself against an Olympian and see how fast you can run the 5,000m! Looking back at London 2012... Mo Farah won gold during the London 2012 Olympics in the Mens 5000m 🥇 His winning time was 13 minutes, 41 seconds! How fast can you run 5km? Time yourself on your phone or watch and let us know! There's a 5km route at Gunpowder Park that you can follow. Download the map here . Why not join in on a parkrun - our route follows the same as parkrun which happens every Saturday. It starts at 09:00 and it is 2 laps of the park (our mapped route follows the same as parkrun). What is parkrun? A free, fun, and friendly weekly 5k community event. Walk, jog, run, volunteer or spectate – it's up to you! You can sign up on the website to receive a barcode and each time you take part, you'll get an official time when you scan your barcode. Come and meet the programme coordinator, take a tour of the venue and find out what activities are perfect for you. At the end of each session we will offer a led walking around our beautiful parks. These sessions are a great opportunities to take that first step in leading a more active lifestyle and find out more information in a friendly and welcoming environment.     < Back to What's On Wreath Making Workshop - 30 November Date: 30 November Time: 10:30 - 12:30 Book your space > Join our Head Gardener in creating a festive masterpiece 345 per person Myddelton House Gardens ‘Tis the season to bring botanical beauty to your front door with our Wreath Making Workshop. Lead by our Head Gardener You will be welcome into the stable block with a hot drink and Christmas treat, to learn all the skills of wreath making from the expert. Each wreath will be unique and completely sustainable using natural decorations and foliage from the garden. All foliage and equipment will be provided and you can enjoy the session chatting with friends while admiring your creations. The session will be in the historic Stable Block in the courtyard on the Bowles Tea Room, so make sure you wrap up warm for the festivities.     < Back Nordic Walking Nordic Walking is an enhanced walking technique that uses poles to work your upper body as well as your legs. It gives you a highly effective all over workout that doesn’t feel like one. How will Nordic Walking benefit your body? Nordic Walking combines the simplicity of walking with core and upper body conditioning similar to Nordic skiing. This gives you a full body workout, which means that you can: Burn around 20% more calories compared to walking without poles. Release tension in your neck and shoulders. Improve your posture and gait. Strengthen your back and abdominal muscles. Reduce the impact on your joints. And because Nordic Walking doesn’t feel like hard work you’ll be happy to walk further and for longer. Is Nordic Walking for you? It’s an ideal activity if you haven’t exercised for a while or dislike traditional sports or gym activities. It is helpful if you have had an injury as the poles can support and guide you while you work to improve fitness as part of your rehabilitation. It is great for athletes for cross training. It provides community groups with a sociable way to keep fit. And it’s fantastic if you’d like to shed a few pounds. Whatever your age, from 8 to 80+, you’ll enjoy discovering the benefits of Nordic Walking that improve your quality of life. Lee Valley run a weekly session from Fishers Green at 10:00.     < Back Lifewalks Lifewalks is a walking for health scheme which takes place in various walking routes within Lee Valley. Each walk will encourage you to walk a little faster than usual and all abilities are welcome. These walks are a great chance to meet new people whilst leading a more active lifestyle. Lifewalks take place on Tuesdays (10:00), Wednesday (10:30), Thursdays (10:00), Fridays (10:00) and Sundays (10:30). Walking routes vary between 1.6 – 3 miles long. Meeting points include the following: Fishers Green Car Park Lee Valley White Water Centre Gunpowder Park Hooks Marsh Car Park Waltham Abbey Gardens Pindar Car Park Lee Valley Ice Centre Lee Valley Athletics Centre New to Lifewalks The Lifewalk leaders will introduce you to the group so you can get to know other walkers and we often have volunteers on hand who will happily walk with you.     < Back Sensory walks Lee Valley sensory walks currently take place in Gunpowder Park. These walks allow you to use your senses to connect with your surroundings whilst you stay active. Taking part in this activity will help you to develop social connections, explore the use of your senses, and support your health and fitness. The walks are designed for people with complex disabilities but can be enjoyed by anyone. Lee Valley can offer sensory walks to groups and organisations who'd like a more personalised experience.     < Back Our Parks Our Parks deliver FREE group exercise session for local communities and are currently delivering the following two sessions in Leyton Marshes: Beginners Bootcamp: Thursdays at 18:00 Our Beginners Bootcamp style workout offers a full body workout. This class is suited to all levels, as our coaches always offer modifications so you can take it at your own pace! You'll only need to bring a bottle of water to stay hydrated throughout your workout and please bring your own mat. Please register and Book In for your class to reserve your space & of course we'd love for you to bring a friend along as well. Legs, Bums & Tums: Sundays at 9:00 Our 60 minute beginner LBT classes introduce body weight exercises with intervals all with a focus on strengthening the Legs, Bums, and Tums. This all levels class is perfect for beginners as our friendly coaches offer many different variations to suit all levels. You'll only need to bring a bottle of water to stay hydrated throughout your workout.     < Back Cycling for Health The Cycling for Health programme is a series of weekly led rides. Cycling is a low impact activity that can be enjoyed by absolutely everyone. We have various rides taking place each week on traffic free routes, with the rides at a sociable pace and typically having a mid-ride stop for a chat over a cuppa. These sessions are designed for riders that are looking to regain fitness, confidence cycling, and looking for a friendly cycling group.
