North London Reinforcement Project - What’s Going On? (update 20/05/25)
You may notice National Grid and its contractors are carrying out work to pylons and sub-stations in Lee Valley Regional Park. This work is central to National Grid’s once in a generation infrastructure upgrade called the North London Reinforcement Project.
Carefully monitored vegetation clearance has taken place and the project is now focused on overhead line upgrades, which will take place in phased intervals until 2027. Where possible disruption is being kept to a minimum but in locations where work is being conducted you may see areas fenced off around pylons, heavy machinery in operation and path closures, sometimes at short notice. This is to ensure visitor safety. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
The work is part of the Great Grid Upgrade – necessary work to help meet future UK energy demands and renewable energy targets. Further information on the project is provided by National Grid here.
Cornmill Meadows - Wake Hide (update 20/05/25)

St Paul's Field (update 07/05/25)

Cornmill Meadows Car Park Closure (update 24/01/25)
This car park will be closed from Friday 7 February 2025. The closure is due to National Grid's North London Reinforcement (NLR) project - major upgrades to infrastructure that will connect London and the surrounding areas to new and future renewable energy. Some vegetation clearance will take place from Friday 24 January. During the project National Grid will use this area for a works depot. They expect to complete the work in 2028 when we’ll reopen this car park. Alternative parking is available at Waltham Abbey Gardens, Hooks Marsh and Fishers Green. Parking permits are valid for all car parks within Lee Valley Regional Park listed here. Find further details on the National Grid project here.
Broxbourne Old Mill and Meadows car park flooding (update 27/11/24)
Network Rail have carried out some work on this site, but have more work to do. We’re discussing dates for this next phase with them. We’re pleased that the work they have done so far has allowed us to open up an additional area of the car park and assess the damage that has been caused to Lee Valley Regional Park land. We’re currently looking at reinstatement work for our land which will be carried out in a way that is sensitive to the existing wildlife and habitats.
East India Dock Basin (update 10/06/24)
We’ve closed the walk way over the outer set of lock gates while we assess the condition of the substructure. To cross over please use the gantry bridge on the inner lock gates.
