Herons to Sailing
This month’s walk takes you to a little unknown part of the Lee Valley Park. Glen Faba is now one of our key fisheries and also a haven for a wildlife. A great country walk at any time of the year but this month you are likely to see some lingering wintering wildfowl and activity in the Heron colony. Starting at Dobbs Weir, the route will take you through a part of the park that is somewhat undiscovered. Crossing the River Lea you will follow the course of the river along the western bank of Glen Faba.
The Walk will then take you past the Heron colony which might even have young by now. Around the top end of the pit you will be able to see the new habitat works which has developed more reed bed on the northern edge. Following the lake back down the eastern side, you will see some of the grazing pasture and then follow the River Lea back to the Richard White Sluices that go into Nazeing Pits where you have another opportunity to see more wintering wildfowl before loping back around to the car park.
This is a fantastic walk taking in the River Lea as well as some of the unexplored parklands in the north of the park with great opportunity to view some intresting wildlife.
The length of this walk is 5.2km (3.2 miles) and can take around 2 1/2 hours

Some of this walk is on muddy or uneven footpaths and is not suitable for wheelchairs or buggies.
Parking is FREE
Dogs are allowed but must be kept on a lead
Please wear clothing and footwear suitable for the walk
Bring binoculars for bird and wildlife watching
Please bring water and snacks to keep you energised
By train: the nearest train stations are Broxbourne or Rye House on the Liverpool Street line (both about 30 - 40 minutes walk)
By bus: there is no bus service on a Sunday
By car: the car park can be reached from Dobbs Wier Road from Roydon or Essex Road from Hoddesdon.
