A new Lee Valley Ice Centre moves a step closer
The new venue would replace the current 34 year old centre in Lea Bridge Road, Leyton, which is reaching the end of its operational life. Unless a replacement is developed, ice activities in east London will end.
The London Borough of Waltham Forest is holding a consultation on the planning application and now we need your help. It’s important that the Council hears from as many people as possible who are in favour of the proposals and share our passion and excitement about this valued community asset.
The elegant and eye catching new venue, which would be built on the same site as the current Lee Valley Ice Centre, would have two Olympic size ice rinks side by side, a new gym, cafes, community spaces and exercise studio open to everyone. It would deliver a range of benefits: health, wellbeing, social cohesion, sports and opportunities for clubs, schools and community groups. A host of sensitive environmental improvements would increase wildlife in the area and improve access to the surrounding green spaces. The centre would provide a setting off point for walkers, runners and cyclists.
The fantastic public response and feedback that we gathered during our consultation last summer was used to shape the final plans that were submitted.
Please take a few moments to have your say on the Council’s consultation, which runs until 20 March 2020. Find out how at icecentreredevelopment.com
