Get your class active with a cycling session at Lee Valley VeloPark. From Pedal Up sessions for youngsters to track sessions for your more daring students and much more, we've got all you need right here.

  • We strongly recommend schools book a Pedal Up session before a discipline specific session for KS1 - KS2 pupils
  • These sessions are suitable for ages 5 - 11
  • All equipment is included
  • Maximum of 15 children per session
  • You must arrive 30 minutes prior to the session time
  • Teachers are not permitted to ride in the session and must act as supervision
  • For the whole group to progress within the session the coach will ensure all children are at a similar basic level. Those who are not may be asked to sit out some sections of the session (and will need to be supervised by a teacher)

Pedal Up

Sessions are one hour
£100 per hour
Minimum height 127cm / 4ft 2 ins

Pedal Up sessions are the ideal first pedal towards young people riding a bike. Whether they've only recently learnt to ride a bike or want to build confidence - these sessions are a great introduction before going on to develop specific skills for each discipline.

These sessions run by our fully qualified coaches will help children master the FUNdamentals of cycling including basic skills such as cornering, braking and bike handling.

Track sessions

Sessions are one hour
£115 per hour
Minimum height 127cm / 4ft 2 ins

Could your students be the next Sir Bradley Wiggins or Laura Kenny? Test their skills on the track and see if they can reach the top of the steep 42 degree banking!

BMX sessions

Sessions are one hour
£100 per hour
Minimum height 127cm / 4ft 2 ins

From riding the berms and racing around the BMX track, our fully qualified coaches will build your students confidence and improve their skills in BMX cycling.

Our one mile road circuit is the perfect opportunity for your students to show off their road cycling skills and improve their technique with our coaches.

Mountain biking

Gear up and meet us on the mountain bike trails. Our coaches will guide your students through miles of mountain bike trails and increase their skill base, improve their technique and build their confidence.

FAQs

What is the maximum number of students allowed per session?

There is a maximum of 15 students allowed per session. One teacher must ride with the 15 students on the mountan bike trails.

Do students need to be able to ride a bike?

All students need basic experience of riding a bike.

Does the price vary based on the number of participants?

Standard prices per session apply. Please see information above for individual discipline prices.

Are the road/BMX/mountain bike sessions based at Lee Valley VeloPark?

Yes, these are our outdoor disciplines however you can still access the venue through our main entrance.

How long is each session?

Each standard session is one hour, but this can be increased depending on your needs.

Who are the sessions delivered by?

Every session is delivered by a British Cycling qualified coach.

When do we need to arrive for the session?

You must arrive at least 30 minutes before your session is due to start. This leaves time to change into correct clothing if necessary.

Can teachers participate in sessions?

Teachers are not permitted to ride on the BMX track or velodrome track and must act as supervision. One cycling competent school teacher may ride on the road circuit and one cycling competent school teacher must ride on the mountain bike trails.

How are payments made and when is payment due?

Invoices will be raised upon the completion and return of a Hire Agreement. Payment will need to be made a minimum of 30 days prior to the booking date.

Is parking available?

Coaching bays are available for drop off and pick up. Parking is available for cars, school minibuses etc, however we recommend public transport or coaches as we cannot guarantee parking.

What should I wear?

Track

We recommend the following:

  • Legs: Cycling or sports shorts are best but track suits/jogging bottoms would be fine. They must be close fitting so they do not catch the wheels or chain.
  • Upper body: A lightweight long-sleeved top with a t-shirt underneath is suitable. Shoulders must be covered.
  • Shoes: You can wear normal trainers for sessions or if you wish to bring your own cleats we use Look Keo pedals so Look Keo cleats can be worn.  Please note that other makes are not necessarily compatible – even if they say that they are. You may not bring your own pedals for use on our hire bikes.

BMX

We recommend the following:

  • Body armour, knee and elbow pads, cycling glasses.
  • Two layers of clothing on your upper body (preferably fairly close fitting)

 

Road

We recommend the following:

  • Gloves, cycling glasses.
  • Two layers of clothing (preferably close fitting) on your upper body

Mountain Bike

We recommend the following:

  • Pads, gloves, cycling glasses. Legs, upper body and arms should be fully covered at all times.
  • Two layers of clothing (preferably close fitting) on your upper body.
