London 2012 legacy
During the London 2012 Games
Creating a permanent hockey legacy was one of the pledges in London’s Olympic bid, and the opening of Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre delivers on this promise, along with outstanding tennis facilities – all available to everyone.
The world class venue, which hosted the wheelchair tennis during the Paralympic Games, has outstanding provision for both sports, and will also bring the world’s best players to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park for great tournaments.
The venue is run by Lee Valley Leisure Trust which is committed to delivering enduring benefits for both sports for many years to come by capitalising on the opportunities presented from the staging of the world’s greatest sporting festival, where Team GB’s women’s hockey team took bronze.
Two brand new water based hockey pitches, among the finest playing surfaces in the country are complemented by four indoor tennis courts in a spectacular tennis hall and six outdoor hard courts.
Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre combines community and elite use. It caters for players competing at international level, to clubs, schools, enthusiasts and people new to both sports. It will host the Wheelchair Tennis Championships each November.
