Lee Valley VeloPark

10_Year_Anniversary_Lockup_Full_Colour.jpg

Lee Valley VeloPark on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park is the one stop cycling destination – the only place in the world to offer the four Olympic cycling disciplines in one location: the velodrome, which was used at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, a remodelled Olympic BMX track, alongside miles of challenging mountain bike trails and a one mile floodlit road circuit.

This inspiring venue offers cycling opportunities for all with an extensive programme of club, elite, community and school based activity, in addition to hosting major events in front of sell-out crowds.

During London 2012

The velodrome and BMX track saw some of the most thrilling action of the whole Games, with Team GB dominating the track winning seven out of 10 possible golds, one silver and one bronze while the Paralympic GB team continued the phenomenal success, scooping 15 medals:

Olympics

🥇 seven gold

🥈 one silver

🥉 one bronze

Paralympics

🥇 five gold

🥈 seven silver

🥉 three bronze

The Legacy

When Lee Valley VeloPark opened to the public in April 2014 it became the only venue in the world to bring together the four Olympic cycling disciplines: track in the iconic London 2012 velodrome, BMX, road and mountain biking.

The venue successfully blends community and elite programmes, catering for first time riders through to those at the peak of the sport, competing at international events. There are dedicated sessions for over 40s and female track cyclists, cyclists with disabilities, BMXercise sessions for female BMX riders and specialist toddler sessions using mini-balance bikes are delivered on the infield area of the velodrome, with top athletes whizzing by on the tracks.

Lee Valley VeloPark has hosted major cycling events including World Cups, World Championships and Track Champions Leagues, along with Six Day London, Revolution Champions League and world record attempts. These sell out events introduce people to the thrills of live cycling events and enable fans to follow their sporting heroes.

Corporate conferences, meetings and team building days for the likes of JP Morgan, Barclays, HSBC and Deloitte among many others, are key revenue streams along with large scale cycle rides and fundraising events such as BBC Comic Relief and BBC Sport Relief. Earlier this year Pringles launched its ‘Mind Popping’ campaign with a stunning lightshow projected onto the side of the building and later this year the College of eSports will move into Lee Valley VeloPark, delivering Foundation and Bachelor Degrees in a range of international esports business areas. These innovative uses of the venue provide valuable commercial income and help to subsidise community programmes without impacting track time.

Later this year Lee Valley VeloPark will host the track and para track cycling events for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, making it the only venue in the world to have hosted an Olympics, World Cup and Commonwealth Games in the same sport.
