Wetlands and Rivers

This week's walk in the park leads you round the tranquil lakes and rivers of the River Lee Country Park identifying and exploring the delights around Fishers Green Island.

The lakes, reed beds and grasslands of Fishers Green are an excellent place in which to start to explore the 1,000 acre River Lee Country Park. Our work for wildlife here means as well as a pleasant and relaxing walk you might see a host of wildlife spectacles that use this special place.

Spring is a great time to walk round and Common Terns will be arriving back from Africa to breed on the artificial rafts provided. The cacophony of the Black-headed Gull colony is breathtaking as they bring food in for partners or early young at this time of the year. The woodland in this area is ideal for many song birds including the Nightingale so listen out for their melodic song.
