A Walk in the Park - Gunpowder Park and Swan and Pike
During this weeks walk, you will discover Gunpowder Park and Swan and Pike Pool.
Starting at the Gunpowder Park Filed Station with its unique Gabion walls you will learn about how the park used to be home of munitions testing and visiting was not recommended. Now Gunpowder Park in a vast space of exciting country park where people, wildlife and the arts coexist in a rather more peaceful environment. It took ten years to complete the redevelopment of the ex MOD site and you will learn about the how the site was decontaminated and remained part of the Green Belt.
Leading from Gunpowder Park you will pass the Thames Water Resovoirs and we will visit Swan and Pike Pool, a very well known location for rivers and angling, walking and a great spot for picnics! Swan & Pike Pool was reputedly a Victorian bathing pool, and also a turning around point for the powder mill canal barges.
So come and join us for a history soaked walk around this once secret site which was closed to the public for over 100 years.
The site has car parking, accessible parking and toilet facilities
Dogs are welcome if kept on a lead
Please wear comfortable clothing as the walk can take up to two hours
Bring a snack and some refreshments to give you that energy boost
By train: the nearest station is Enfield Lock on the Liverpool Street line (20 minute walk)
By bus: the 505 stops on Sewardstone Road (5 minute walk)
By car: 5 minute drive from the M25 Junction 26
