Find your way orienteering!

Orienteering is all about finding your way around a specially laid out course, usually armed with only a map. But don’t panic, you’ll quickly learn how to find your way!

It’s a brilliant way to get active in the countryside and fun for families, small groups and individuals alike. Fancy a try? The 34 post orienteering course in the 1,000 acre River Lee Country Park is for you.

Self guided orienteering

You can join the course at any one of three start points:

  • Waltham Abbey Gardens, Abbey View, Waltham Abbey, Essex EN9 1XQ
  • Fishers Green car park, Stubbins Hall Lane, Waltham Abbey, Essex  EN9 2EF
  • Pindar Car Park, Windmill Lane, Cheshunt, Hertfordshire EN8 9AJ

 

All you need is a map (£1.75), post descriptions and a score card, which you can obtain at any of the following locations:

  • Lee Valley Regional Park Information Service. 08456 770 600
  • Lee Valley Park Farms, Stubbins Hall Lane, Waltham Abbey, Essex, EN9 2EF. 01992 892 781 (open February-October)
  • Lee Valley Youth Hostel (near Cheshunt station). 01992 628 392 (accommodation available)

Orienteering for schools and youth groups

You can book group sessions for young people in classic orienteering, the Lee Valley Challenge and GPS orienteering with Lee Valley Regional Park’s Youth and Schools Service:
