Intro to Road Cycling

Our Intro to Road Cycling session is a great way to begin your to road cycling journey. Whether you've ridden a road bike before or are a complete beginner, this taster session will help you gain confidence on a road bike as our coaches help you develop basic skills to ride efficiently and safely. It’s the perfect place to start if you’re training for a charity cycle ride or other group cycling events. Plus you can continue to build confidence in our regular Pay and Ride sessions including Rise and Shine #ThisGirlCan for likeminded women to cycle together and enjoy a complimentary hot drink in Café 42 Degrees afterwards.

If you can’t find a suitable date to redeem your gift voucher on our Intro to Road/MTB sessions, you can use your voucher on an un-coached Pay and Ride session inclusive of bike and helmet hire. Please check Pay and Ride times before visiting and bring your voucher with you.

Road cycling at Lee Valley VeloPark

RaceReady Circuit

Minimum height: 145cm/4ft 9ins

These coached SQT sessions are perfect for cyclists looking to improve their road cycling skills and overall fitness. Enjoy group cycling sessions and use our race specific drills to improve your skills.

Road SQT sessions are also a great way for you to meet and train alongside your peers, and use exercises such as 'chain gangs' to work together to achieve the most out of your sessions.

Essential information

  • Cyclists should be experience club level riders
  • Sessions will evolve  to best suit the needs of those who attend on a regular basis
  • Sessions suitable for ages 12+

School groups

One hour £90

We run sessions for schools to give young people their first taste of road circuit cycling, to develop their skills and maybe start them off on their path to being champions at this inspirational venue! The venue's one mile enclosed road circuit is a safe environment to learn new cycling skills.

Schools will be able to book onto a series of one hour, fully coached sessions, progress to more advanced skills development culminating in structured races. Up to 15 people can take part in a session with one coach with hire fee at £90 per hour. For larger groups we suggest two coaches for a class of 30 students costing £140. Sessions include bike hire and safety equipment.

Pedal Up school sessions

Pedal Up school sessions

Sessions are one hour
£90 per hour
Minimum height: 127cm

Pedal Up sessions are the ideal first pedal towards young people riding a bike. Whether they've only recently learnt to ride a bike or want to build confidence - these sessions are a great introduction before going on to develop specific skills for each discipline.

These fun sessions run by our fully qualified coaches will help children master the FUNdamentals of cycling including basic skills such as cornering, braking and bike handling.

We strongly recommend schools book a Pedal Up session before a discipline specific session for KS1 - KS2 pupils

Essential information

  • These sessions are suitable for ages 5 - 11
  • All equipment is included (bike, helmet and gloves)
  • Maximum of 15 children per session
  • You must arrive 30 minutes prior to the session time to ensure a prompt start
  • Teachers are not permitted to ride in the session and must act as supervision
  • For the whole group to progress within the session, the coach will ensure all children are at a similar basic level, those who are not may be asked to sit out some sections of the session (and will need to be supervised by a teacher)

Club sessions

Lee Valley VeloPark will also be the training and meeting venue of choice for a large number of clubs.

How can I cycle the road circuit?

Taster sessions, skills sessions and pay and ride sessions will be available to allow you to experience this premium road cycling circuit. With bike hire available from the venue and included in our taster sessions there is nothing to stop you from racing round this one mile circuit.

What should I wear?

For road cycling it is mandatory to wear a cycling helmet. This is included in the cost of a taster session or helmets are available to hire from the venue for other sessions.

We recommend the following:

  • Gloves, cycling glasses.
  • Two layers of clothing (preferably close fitting) on your upper body

Can I cycle when pregnant?

Unfortunately we do not allow women who are pregnant to cycle any of our tracks or circuits whilst pregnant.

Essential information

  • For coached sessions you must arrive at least 45 minutes before your session is due to start.
  • Riders must be capable of riding without stabilisers to use the road circuit.
  • Children aged 5 to 11 years must be accompanied by one adult to two children.
  • Children age 12 and over  do not require adult supervision but this is recommended.
  • Children under 16 participating in any sessions e.g. General Taster Sessions, Youth Taster Sessions, skills sessions, pay and ride (if not under parental/guardian supervision) must bring a signed Parental/Guardian Consent Form with them to be able to participate in their session.
  • Equipment hire: Taster sessions include bike and helmet hire, all other sessions do not include any equipment (unless otherwise specified) - you can hire equipment (bike/helmet/shoes) from the venue but you will require personal identification and proof of address (utility, bank or other statements must be less than three months old). The pedals on our bikes are Look Keo, and using your own pedals on hire bikes is not permitted
  • Riders are required to wear helmets and safety equipment while cycling on any of the four circuits at Lee Valley VeloPark. Where this is not included in the session cost you may hire a helmet from the venue. The helmet must be worn correctly at all times when with a bike. If you wish to bring your own it must meet the current UK safety standard - BS EN 1078:1997.
  • Cycling and other activities available at Lee Valley VeloPark carry inherent risks. You should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for your own actions and involvement. If you're unsure whether you are able to participate in any activity, or if you have any questions concerning our terms and conditions, your booking form or the safety and risk declaration, please ask a member of staff before you enter into a contract or agree to partake in cycling at Lee Valley VeloPark.
