BMX taster sessions
Adult £15 Junior £12

These one hour taster sessions are for those who wish to experience the BMX track and explore the discipline of BMX for the first time. Riders will be given an introduction to the key skills of BMX, working on key body position techniques and how these change around the diverse environment of a BMX track. Skills will include pumping and handling a BMX around the different sections of the track.  Should skill and confidence progress, riders will be given a chance to complete the experience by executing laps of the track, allowing riders to build speed and have fun whilst enjoying the fantastic BMX track at Lee Valley VeloPark.  Along with the pay and ride sessions, riders can also gain the formal BMX induction, to progress to BMX skills sessions

  • Bike and helmet hire is included in the session, however you must provide your own BMX gloves
  • BMX Youth Taster sessions are suitable for ages 7+

Lee Valley VeloPark Experience is the ultimate opportunity to take part in the two cycling disciplines that featured at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park during the London 2012 Games. Riders will get the chance to take part in a track taster session, to learn the key techniques of riding our 250 metre velodrome and track specific bikes, riders will then take on the Lee Valley VeloPark BMX track, with all the different features it has to offer. At the end of the session, riders will take home a memento of the experience and have the chance to relax and share the memories of the day in our café.

  • This experience is suitable for participants aged 12 or over
  • Bike and helmet are included, however you need to bring your own BMX gloves or hire them from the venue
  • Dependent on weather conditions BMX sessions may be changed to a road or mountain bike session

These two hour sessions are aimed at riders that have completed their BMX taster session or induction to pay and ride sessions as well as experienced riders wishing to improve their existing skills. The session will include a wide range of skills including pumping, manual, jumping, cornering with berms, and skills to progress riders towards BMX gates sessions.

  • Equipment is not included in this session, however bike, helmet and gloves can be hired from the venue.


RaceReady Gates session

These two hour sessions are for experienced BMX riders that have completed their BMX taster session or induction to pay and ride sessions and had some experience of skills sessions, club BMX sessions or some racing.

The sessions consist of skills and fitness training using the BMX start gate and may include practice races.

  • Equipment is not included in this session, however bike, helmet and gloves can be hired from the venue.

You will need to have successfully completed our BMX taster session which is used as an induction to our pay and ride sessions to ensure you can use the track safely.

  • Once you've completed the session log in online, using your membership number and you can book a pay and ride session.
  • Bike hire is £12 per adult and £8 per junior.
  • Family bike hire is £30 (prices based on 2 adults, 2 juniors).


These sessions are ideal for BMXers who want to use the track and its features for fun or to develop your skills. Equipment is not included in this session but can be hired from the venue. Book your BMX pay and ride session

School groups

One hour - £90 (up to 15 children)

We run specially priced sessions for schools to give young people their first taste of BMX, or develop their skills and maybe start them off on their path to being champions at this inspirational venue!

Schools will be able to book onto a series of one hour, fully coached sessions, progress to more advanced skills development culminating in structured races. Up to 15 people can take part in a session with one coach with hire fee at £90 per hour and include bike hire and safety equipment.

Pedal Up school sessions

Pedal Up school sessions

Sessions are one hour
£90 per hour
Minimum height: 127cm

Pedal Up sessions are the ideal first pedal towards young people riding a bike. Whether they've only recently learnt to ride a bike or want to build confidence - these sessions are a great introduction before going on to develop specific skills for each discipline.

These fun sessions run by our fully qualified coaches will help children master the FUNdamentals of cycling including basic skills such as cornering, braking and bike handling.

We strongly recommend schools book a Pedal Up session before a discipline specific session for KS1 - KS2 pupils

Essential information

  • These sessions are suitable for ages 5 - 11
  • All equipment is included (bike, helmet and gloves)
  • Maximum of 15 children per session
  • You must arrive 30 minutes prior to the session time to ensure a prompt start
  • Teachers are not permitted to ride in the sessionand must act as supervision
  • For the whole group to progress within the session, the coach will ensure all children are at a similar basic level, those who are not may be asked to sit out some sections of the session (and will need to be supervised by a teacher)

How do I get to ride the BMX track?

BMX is a fun and exhilarating sport enjoyed by millions across the globe and if you've not tried it before, now's your chance! You don't need to have ridden a BMX before but as long as you can ride a bike without stabilisers, are aged 7 or over and a minimum height 127cm / 4ft 2in you can join one of our taster sessions.

Skills sessions are also available to help you develop your skills in various areas.

What should I wear?

For BMX you must wear a full face cycling helmet and gloves. Legs, upper body and arms must be covered at all times. Flat soled trainers must be worn.

Bike and helmet hire is included in the session but you must provide your own BMX gloves. Helmets are available to hire for other sessions or you may bring your own but they must meet the safety regulations stated in our essential information.

We recommend the following:

  • Body armour, knee and elbow pads, cycling glasses.
  • Two layers of clothing on your upper body (preferably fairly close fitting)

Can I cycle when pregnant?

Unfortunately we do not allow women who are pregnant to cycle any of our tracks or circuits whilst pregnant.

Essential information

  • For coached sessions you must arrive at least 45 minutes before your session is due to start.
  • Riders must be capable of riding without stabilisers to use the BMX track.
  • Minimum height 127cm / 4ft 2in
  • Children under 16 participating in any sessions e.g. General Taster Sessions, Youth Taster Sessions, skills sessions, pay and ride must bring a signed Parental/Guardian Consent Form with them to be able to participate in their session.
  • Children aged between 7 and 11 must be accompanied and supervised at all times by an adult from the BMX viewing area.
  • Children aged 12 and over do not require adult supervision however it is strongly recommended.
  • Riders participating in a BMX taster session are required to provide BMX gloves. Bike and helmet hire is included in taster sessions.
  • Equipment hire: Taster sessions include bike and helmet hire, all other sessions do not include any equipment (unless otherwise specified) - you can hire equipment (bike/helmet) from the venue but you will require personal identification and proof of address (utility, bank or other statements must be less than three months old).
  • Riders are required to wear helmets and safety equipment while cycling on any of the four circuits at Lee Valley VeloPark. Where this is not included in the session cost you may hire a helmet from the venue. The helmet must be worn correctly at all times when with a bike. If you wish to bring your own it must meet the current UK safety standard - BS EN 1078:1997.
  • Cycling and other activities available at Lee Valley VeloPark carry inherent risks. You should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for your own actions and involvement. If you're unsure whether you are able to participate in any activity, or if you have any questions concerning our terms and conditions, your booking form or the safety and risk declaration, please ask a member of staff before you enter into a contract or agree to partake in  cycling at Lee Valley VeloPark.
