Lee Valley VeloPark's BMX track provided an incredible showcase of this massively exciting adrenalin fuelled sport during the London 2012 Games and now you can experience the thrills of this world class course for yourself!

BMX Taster sessions

These one hour taster sessions are for riders who wish to experience the BMX track and explore the discipline of BMX for the first time.

Riders will be given an introduction to the key skills of BMX including body position techniques and how these change around the diverse environment of a BMX track.

From 1 October Adult BMX Taster sessions will be for ages 12+ and Youth BMX Taster sessions will be for ages 7 - 11

RaceReady Gates

This session is only £6 per rider

These sessions consist of skills and fitness training using the BMX start gate and are for experienced BMX riders that have completed their BMX taster session and have experienced skills sessions, club BMX sessions or some racing.

  • You must have passed a BMX Taster or CoreStart session before attending a Pay and Ride session
  • Once you've completed a BMX Taster session log in online using your membership number to book
  • Bike hire is available | £12 per adult | £8 per junior | £30 per family

We run specially priced one hour sessions for schools to give young people their first taste of BMX.

Schools can book on to a series of one hour, fully coached sessions to progress their skills, ending with structured races.

  • We strongly recommend schools book a Pedal Up session before a discipline specific session for KS1 - KS2 pupils
  • These sessions are suitable for ages 5 - 11
  • All equipment is included
  • Maximum of 15 children per session
  • You must arrive 30 minutes prior to the session time
  • Teachers are not permitted to ride in the session and must act as supervision
  • For the whole group to progress within the session the coach will ensure all children are at a similar basic level. Those who are not may be asked to sit out some sections of the session (and will need to be supervised by a teacher)

Pedal Up school sessions

Sessions are one hour

Pedal Up sessions are the ideal first pedal towards young people riding a bike. Whether they've only recently learnt to ride a bike or want to build confidence - these sessions are a great introduction before going on to develop specific skills for each discipline.

These sessions run by our fully qualified coaches will help children master the FUNdamentals of cycling including basic skills such as cornering, braking and bike handling.

FAQs

How do I get to ride the BMX track?

BMX is a fun and exhilarating sport enjoyed by millions across the globe and if you've not tried it before, now's your chance! You don't need to have ridden a BMX before but as long as you can ride a bike without stabilisers, are aged 7 or over and a minimum height 127cm / 4ft 2in you can join one of our taster sessions.

Skills sessions are also available to help you develop your skills in various areas.

What should I wear?

For BMX you must wear a full face cycling helmet and gloves. Legs, upper body and arms must be covered at all times. Flat soled trainers must be worn.

Bike and helmet hire is included in the session but you must provide your own BMX gloves. Helmets are available to hire for other sessions or you may bring your own but they must meet the safety regulations stated in our essential information.

We recommend the following:

  • Body armour, knee and elbow pads, cycling glasses.
  • Two layers of clothing on your upper body (preferably fairly close fitting)

Can I cycle when pregnant?

Unfortunately we do not allow women who are pregnant to cycle any of our tracks or circuits whilst pregnant.

Essential information

  • For coached sessions you must arrive at least 45 minutes before your session is due to start.
  • Riders must be capable of riding without stabilisers to use the BMX track.
  • Minimum height 127cm / 4ft 2in
  • Children under 16 participating in any sessions e.g. General Taster Sessions, Youth Taster Sessions, skills sessions, pay and ride must bring a signed Parental/Guardian Consent Form with them to be able to participate in their session.
  • Children aged between 7 and 11 must be accompanied and supervised at all times by an adult from the BMX viewing area.
  • Children aged 12 and over do not require adult supervision however it is strongly recommended.
  • Riders participating in a BMX taster session are required to provide BMX gloves. Bike and helmet hire is included in taster sessions.
  • Equipment hire: Taster sessions include bike and helmet hire, all other sessions do not include any equipment (unless otherwise specified) - you can hire equipment (bike/helmet) from the venue but you will require personal identification and proof of address (utility, bank or other statements must be less than three months old).
  • Riders are required to wear helmets and safety equipment while cycling on any of the four circuits at Lee Valley VeloPark. Where this is not included in the session cost you may hire a helmet from the venue. The helmet must be worn correctly at all times when with a bike. If you wish to bring your own it must meet the current UK safety standard - BS EN 1078:1997.
  • Cycling and other activities available at Lee Valley VeloPark carry inherent risks. You should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for your own actions and involvement. If you're unsure whether you are able to participate in any activity, or if you have any questions concerning our terms and conditions, your booking form or the safety and risk declaration, please ask a member of staff before you enter into a contract or agree to partake in  cycling at Lee Valley VeloPark.
