Paddle the Legacy Loop and/or Olympic Course

To paddle our Legacy Loop or Olympic course you'll need to successfully complete one or both of our assessments, after which you'll become a member. There are two types of Kayaking Competency Assessments, the Legacy Assessment and the Olympic Assessment. These determine which courses you can paddle on our public sessions.

Legacy Assessment

This assessment is for paddlers new to Lee Valley White Water Centre who are looking to be signed off as competent to paddle during our public paddling session on the Legacy Loop or to use the lake during our open times.

The assessment takes place firstly on the lake and then moves across onto the Legacy Loop once the assessor is happy.

This assessment is designed for paddlers with experience on the water as you are required to show you are competent and safe in all areas of your paddling.

Essential information

Your safety and the safety of other water users, is important to us. There's no minimum age requirement, but as our courses range between Grade 3 and Grade 4, all paddlers need to have white water experience and complete the above assessments to demonstrate an acceptable level and standard. Once you have successfully completed these assessments you will become a member of the centre and can book future sessions online.
